KUALA LUMPUR — Kempen beregu profesional Malaysia, Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi dalam kejohanan badminton Kumamoto Masters Jepun berakhir dengan penuh emosi apabila langkah mereka tersekat pada aksi separuh akhir yang sengit hari ini.

Selepas memenangi set pertama, pasangan ranking ke-12 itu tumpas 21-16,20-22, 17-21 kepada beregu nombor lapan dunia, Liu Yu Chen-Ou Xuan Yi dalam pertarungan yang berlarutan selama sejam, lapan minit.

Yew Sin-Ee Yi mempamer aksi meyakinkan di set pertama dan di awal set kedua, malangnya harapan peminat negara untuk melihat mereka melakar kemenangan straight-set gagal selepas tewas tipis 20-22.

Ketika perlawanan memasuki set penentuan, pasangan nombor dua negara itu mempamer semangat juang tinggi berdepan lawan hebat dalam kejohanan bertaraf Super 500.

Bagaimanapun, usaha keras mereka gagal menghadirkan kemenangan apabila Yew Sin-Ee Yi akhirnya tumpas 17-21, iaitu kekalahan ketiga mereka kepada pasangan China itu dalam empat pertemuan.

Persembahan terbaik pasangan negara itu musim ini adalah melangkah ke separuh akhir Terbuka Taiwan, Jun lalu dan Terbuka Switzerland pada Mac.

Misi Yew Sin-Ee Yi seterusnya ialah kejohanan Super 750 China Masters, bermula Selasa ini, di mana mereka akan berdepan rakan senegara dan bekas juara dunia, Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik pada pusingan pembukaan. — 18 November, 2023
