No changes in BAM except president’s post when Zafrul takes over: Norza

Outgoing chief says business as usual for management team, transition will be planned soon

4:06 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) executive council (exco) members will remain in office until 2025 despite the change in leadership early next year.

Outgoing president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria assured the current exco members will stay even after Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz takes over in January 2024.

Norza said that he and Zafrul have met on many occasions to discuss the transition of power ahead of BAM’s annual general meeting (AGM) next month.

“Our AGM is next month and after the Malaysian Open in January, we will plan the transition of power.

“It will be business as usual for the current management team.

“I want to make sure BAM gets its house in order first before we brief Zafrul about our operations. We need to be fair to him.

“There will only be a change in the leadership of BAM as everything else in the status quo until the next election in 2025.

“Usually, in the BAM elections, only the top three seats will be contested and I believe it will remain the same in 2025. Norza told reporters after the memorandum of understanding signing between BAM and Astro Kasih.

Zafrul, who is also investment, trade and industry minister, was named as the new BAM president at the badminton body’s council meeting in October last year, to replace Norza who is vacating the seat at the end of the year.

Norza was elected as BAM president in 2017 and defended his seat in 2021. – November 21, 2023
