KUALA LUMPUR – With the announcement that Malaysia will play host to the M6 Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) World Championships next year, one question persists. Is Malaysia ready to hold such a prestigious tournament?

Malaysia is no stranger to successfully hosting international sporting events, from the MotoGP to the Commonwealth Games in 1998 and the SEA Games in 2017.

But recently, during the Wildcard playoff stage for the M5 MLBB World Championships held at the Jio Space Arena in Petaling Jaya last month, a nightmare scenario for online gamers arose – no internet at the venue.

After much delay, the day’s action had to be postponed to the next day, leaving fans, teams, and competitors alike deeply frustrated.

At a press conference in Manila yesterday after the announcement, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister Adam Adli Abd Halim said Malaysia has done so much in the past year to improve facilities used in not just sports but also eSports.

“We have done a lot in the past year in Malaysia to improve the accessibility of the internet.

“We have done the same in regard to improving the communication between all those involved in organising events in the country.

“Every ministry will work together hand in hand to ensure Malaysia has an ecosystem where it will always be ready to host massive events such as the M6,” he said.

Adam also added that Malaysia is prepared to improve and up their game to ensure the M6 will be a memorable event for fans and competitors alike.

“We will call upon other stakeholders and all the talents out there in Malaysia to help us organise the M6 and make it the best that it has ever been so far.

“We have solved many issues before, and we are prepared to host the M6.

“I do believe that we already have enough agencies working hand in hand to make sure such an event like the M6 can be organised successfully,” he said. – December 18, 2023
