Four karate exponents set for promotion to Podium Programme

All four are female development athletes, says Makaf president

10:50 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Four karate exponents are expected to be absorbed into the National Sports Council’s (NSC) Podium Programme next year, said Malaysian Karate Federation (Makaf) president Datuk Nur Azmi Ahmad.

He said the four are development athletes, namely women exponents Lovelly Anne Robberth, Nathalia Sherawinnie Yampil, Naccy Elly Evvaferra Rojin and Zakiah Adnan.

“Finally, athletes at the development stage will be promoted to the Podium Programme, and now we have a good development squad,” he told reporters after the Sports Working Committee meeting at the NSC here today.

Nur Azmi said four names had also been proposed to be dropped from the Podium Programme but Makaf would study the list before making a decision.

“Some are injured and some did not perform well. So, we will wait until the Makaf Karate Open Championship in Kuala Lumpur in February and Southeast Asia Karate-do Championship in Thailand in April,” he added. – December 20, 2023
