KUALA LUMPUR — In every cherished Christmas family gathering, there is a moment that holds a special place in the heart, creating lasting memories for all.

For the legendary Indonesian men’s doubles shuttler, Rexy Mainaky, that moment revolves around the family cake and the must-have “nasi pasar,” recipes that have been passed down through generations.

Rexy, Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) coaching director and a permanent resident since 2007, recently shared insights into his family’s unique and treasured Christmas traditions.

Their celebrations are a testament to the simplicity of the season, emphasising the values of family, gratitude, and the preservation of customs.

Expressing the desire for his children to be present for every Christmas, Rexy acknowledged the challenges posed by their busy schedules and individual lives.

“My wife and I always want our children to be with us every Christmas, but we know how busy they are—with their work or their own lives.

“So, we have to understand that. But this year, we can gather with them, so we are happy. Merry Christmas!,” he said during a recent interview with Scoop.

In an exclusive Scoop Sports Christmas Special, the Olympic gold medalist and former World Champion offered a glimpse into how he is spending quality time with his loved ones – his wife, Henny, daughter Geraldine, and son Christian – during this festive season. — December 24, 2023
