Cycling ace Azizulhasni welcomes fourth child in Melbourne on his birthday

Two-time Olympic medalist’s announcement was greeted by a wave of congratulations

KUALA LUMPUR – National track cycling ace Datuk Azizulhasni Awang found himself in a whirlwind of unexpected joy on his birthday today, after his wife Athiah Ilyana Abd Samat gave birth to their fourth child in Melbourne, Australia.

The Pocket Rocketman shared the joyous news through a post on his Facebook page, revealing that the journey to parenthood for the fourth time began with a routine weekly check-up.

He said during the check-up, the couple received surprising news from the doctor, saying “the baby couldn’t wait to come into the world.”

The swift turn of events led them straight to the operating room just a few hours later. 

“Thank you dear wife for giving me a very meaningful birthday gift. This unexpected gift came a few weeks early and gave us a big surprise as a family.

“Thank God my wife and baby are healthy and protected by Allah SWT… now I am the father of four children,” he said. 

Amid the celebration, the gender, face, and name of the newest family member remained a mystery, teasing the curiosity of well-wishers and fans alike. 

“Do you think you think it’s a baby boy or a girl this time?” he playfully asked.

The two-time Olympic medalist’s announcement resonated with a wave of congratulations and heartfelt prayers from the community. 

Notable figures such as Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh, squash queen Datuk Nicol David, Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Datuk Seri Tengku Zafrul Tengku Abdul Aziz, AirAsia boss Tan Sri Tony Fernandes, and Selangor Princess Tengku Zatashah Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah joined in the chorus of well-wishers. – January 5, 2024
