KUALA LUMPUR – The Kedah Football Association has confirmed that its chief executive officer Zulkifli Che Haron is being detained by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in connection to a RM6 million graft case.

Four people, including the CEO and two consultants of a football association in the northern region, were remanded for three days until January 7 for allegedly soliciting bribes of more than RM6 million.

The four aged between 40 and 60, were arrested by MACC on Thursday evening when they showed up to the graftbusters’ office in Kedah to give their statements.

According to sources, investigations found that the money was banked into an account belonging to a football association.

The money was believed to be a bribe for “assisting a business owner in obtaining a tender to build a racing circuit and to manage operations and maintenance of a state’s five reservoirs”.

The case is being investigated under Section 16a(B) of the MACC Act 2009 for soliciting and receiving gratification. – January 6, 2024
