Argentine hitman Forestieri departs JDT

Prolific forward the latest to exit football club amid cost-cutting exercise

KUALA LUMPUR – Johor Darul Ta’zim hitman Fernando Forestieri has left the 10-time Super League champions.

In a Facebook post today, JDT thanked the Argentine for his contributions to the team in his two seasons with the club. 

“JDT would like to thank Fernando Forestieri for his contribution to the Southern Tigers since joining the club at the start of the 2022 season.

“The forward was part of the squad that won a historic double treble (Super League, Malaysia Cup and FA Cup) in 2022 and 2023.

“He scored 47 goals and made 21 assists in 69 appearances for JDT,” read the statement. 

The 33-year-old has had stints in Italy, Spain and England before landing in Malaysia.

He has played for clubs such as Genoa, Udinese, Malaga, Watford and Sheffield Wednesday to name a few.

Previously, JDT announced the departure of head coach Esteban Solari and six players in a cost-cutting exercise.

Technical director Hector Bidoglio, who guided JDT to their first treble in 2022, has returned to the dugout. – January 7, 2024
