LTdL 2024 to flag off from Langkawi

This year’s race returns to island after skipping it last year, other locations to be confirmed

2:24 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Langkawi is set to reclaim its place on Le Tour de Langkawi (LTdL) route, hosting the first stage of the 28th edition after being omitted from the route last year.

This year’s race, scheduled from September 29 to October 6, marks a significant return for the tourist island to the ProSeries status road cycling race circuit.

While the starting point is confirmed in Langkawi, details about the other states remain undisclosed, with two potential routes being considered.

Sharing insight on the upcoming race, LTdL 2024 chief operating officer Emir Abd Jalal said they are still scouting the route on the peninsula.

“The race will start in Langkawi but I cannot reveal the other states that we will head to as we are still scouting the route.

“There are two possible routes on the peninsula for this year’s race but it will only be confirmed later.

“We want to increase the number of stages but that all depends on cost,” he said.

Emir added that the team is committed to organising a superior race compared to the previous year in conjunction with the 50th anniversary of sponsor Petronas.

“Because of that significant milestone, we are working to ensure the support for this year is bigger than previous years,” he said.

Talks have commenced with WorldTour and ProTour teams to secure participation in the event, with an emphasis on increasing the involvement of WorldTour teams.

“EF Education-Easypost will likely return to defend their overall team classification title. Astana Qazaqstan Team is also likely to return,” he added.

Last year’s race ran from September 23 until 30 and featured eight stages across 11 states and covered a total distance of 1,280km. – January 23, 2024
