KUALA LUMPUR – Harimau Malaya’s thrilling 3-3 draw against South Korea in their final Group E match at the 2023 Asian Cup stands as a monumental gift to fervent Malaysians nationwide, said Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

Taking to Facebook to share her elation over Malaysia’s performance, Hannah added there was a significant challenge that lied ahead for Kim Pan-gon’s men.

Amid the throngs of passionate fans at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, the minister praised Harimau Malaya for leaving an indelible mark on the Asian stage.

“Harimau Malaya stamped our mark on the Asian stage. We have a lot more work ahead of us. Work starts again tomorrow. Malaysia will be back in the next Asian Cup.

“This draw against Korea is the biggest gift to Harimau Malaya fans in Qatar and all across Malaysia.

“When we put our heart and soul into everything we do, the world will notice. #RoadToGold. Pan-gon you rock,” the post read.

Hannah also congratulated Football Association of Malaysia president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin for the triumphant outcome of the match.

Faisal Halim and Arif Aiman Hanapi shocked the South Koreans in the second half to give Harimau Malaya a 2-1 lead after conceding in the first half.

Despite Paris Saint-Germain’s Lee Kang-in levelling the score, and The Taegeuk Warriors seemingly securing the win in extra time through captain Son Heung-min’s penalty, naturalised player Romel Morales emerged as the hero, ensuring Malaysia returned from Qatar with a commendable point. – January 25, 2024
