KUALA LUMPUR – Where to next? 

This is the question that is being asked about Selangor talisman Brendan Gan, who has bid farewell to the team. 

After plying his trade for four seasons with the Red Giants, the midfield ace has finally left the 33-time Malaysia Cup champions.

In a statement last night, Selangor FC expressed their highest appreciation to Brendan for his leadership and dedication in guiding the team, as well as for his outstanding performances for the Red Giants in every match since joining the team in December 2019 from Perak FC.

“As the team captain, Brendan has always brought a positive aura and a never-say-die attitude that are essential to any team.

“We would like to wish Brendan Gan all the best for his future endeavours. Hope we meet again. Once a Red, #foreverRED,” read the statement.

With Selangor, the 35-year-old made a total of 80 appearances, with 75 of them in the starting line-up, and captained the team in almost all of their matches.

The Malaysian-Australian player scored 14 goals and 12 assists for the team.

In July 2021, Brendan’s football career was hit after he was diagnosed with testicular cancer but after battling and undergoing a 12-month rehabilitation session to recover from the disease, he eventually returned to lead Selangor.

He immediately made an impact when he scored in the Super League match against Sarawak United on September 19, 2022.

Brendan was part of Harimau Malaya’s Asian Cup squad as he was in the starting line-up in their final group match against South Korea, which they drew 3-3. – February 2, 2024
