KUALA LUMPUR – National top mixed doubles duo, Chen Tang Jie and Toh Ee Wei, secured payback against Japan’s Hiroki Midorikawa and Natsu Saito at the Thailand Masters semi-finals held at Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok today.

After losing to the world number 11 Japanese pair in the second round of the Malaysia Open last month, Tang Jie and Ee Wei turned the tables, exacting sweet revenge on their rivals by clinching victory in straight sets 21-11, 21-17 within 33 minutes.

The second set was particularly exciting as the Malaysians, at one point trailing 15-11, rallied to take the next five points before ultimately claiming the set and the match.

Tomorrow, Tang Jie-Ee Wei will take on world number six home favourites Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai in their first final of the season.

The Thais hold a 4-1 record against the Malaysians, including their recent straight-sets victory of 21-19, 21-16 in the second round of the India Open last month. – February 3, 2024
