French Open: early exit for Tang Jie-Ee Wei after falling to China

National mixed doubles duo exit from Super 750 in second round after losing 21-18, 21-14 to Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping

8:43 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – National mixed doubles pair Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei was sent packing in the second round of the Super 750 French Open at the Port de la Chapelle Arena in Paris today.

It was an uphill task for the Malaysian pair as they were going against the fourth seed Feng Yanzhe-Huang Dongping of China. They lost 21-18, 21-14 in straight sets.

Yesterday, the world number nine dumped compatriots Tan Kian Meng-Lai Pei Jing out of the tournament, winning in straight sets 21-15, 21-18 in 42 minutes.

This was Tang Jie-Ee Wei’s fourth exit in the second round in five tournaments as they had early exits at the Malaysia and India Opens, as well as the Indonesia Masters.

However, they broke that curse at the Thailand Masters last month by getting to the final only to lose to the home pair Dechapol Puavaranukroh-Sapsiree Taerattanachai 21-12, 21-18 in straight sets.

Tang Jie-Ee Wei will now prepare for the All England tournament, which will be held at the Utilita Arena in Birmingham on Tuesday.

The pair will meet their Thailand Open conquerors, Puavaranukroh-Taerattanachai from Thailand, in the first round of the tournament. – March 7, 2024
