KUALA LUMPUR – Tan Cheng Hoe, the head coach of Police Tero FC, believes that training his players at Johor Darul Ta’zim FC’s (JDT) “world-class” facilities will significantly elevate their performance for the remainder of the season.

The former Selangor FC head coach, who recently dropped a bombshell by joining the Thailand-based club, is currently in Johor Bahru with his team for a nine-day midseason training camp.

Previously, Scoop reported that Cheng Hoe, despite having an existing contract with the Red Giants, agreed to a mutual termination with the club, with the club also receiving a compensation fee based on his contract.

Under Cheng Hoe’s guidance, Selangor FC finished second in the Malaysia Super League with 61 points and qualified for next season’s AFC Asian Champions League 2 group stage.

Speaking to Scoop, Cheng Hoe said that he wants to provide a fresh environment for his players to train in, ensuring that they step outside of their comfort zone and gain exposure by training in another country.

“I want my players to experience a new environment by having them train in a world-class facility around the region, and that’s when the club’s management contacted JDT for help, and they agreed to allow our players to use their facilities for training.

“We all know the standard of JDT’s facilities, as they have everything equipped in their club with all the latest training technologies. I’m not saying that our facilities back home are not good enough, but the facilities at JDT are much better and will give our players a better edge in their performances.

“I would like to take this moment to thank the Regent of Johor, Tunku Ismail Sultan Ibrahim, for being kind enough and lending his help to prepare my players for the rest of the season.

“The team looks more pumped up, and we will work hard to ensure that we finish our season on a high note with nine games to go,” said Cheng Hoe when contacted.

The Bangkok-based club, which won the Thai League in the 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 seasons, is currently battling in the relegation zone, ranked 14th in the league.

The club also has a history of being the runners-up in the 2002/2003 AFC Asian Champions League. – March 14, 2024
