A local news portal reported that race organisers had reached out to the PM for discussions

KUALA LUMPUR – Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh revealed that Formula E has not yet engaged with the ministry regarding its interest in hosting a race in the country.

Addressing such concern raised in Parliament recently, she highlighted the absence of any formal meetings between the ministry and Formula E representatives.

“They have yet to meet with us and we are waiting if they do want to have a meeting with the ministry.

“However, I’m aware that they have contacted other ministries regarding their interest in organising the race here,” she said at a press conference after launching the 2024 edition of Le Tour de Langkawi at the National Sports Council, here today.

Previously, a local news portal reported that the country might lose the opportunity to host the season-ending race of the electric-powered single-seater series to Thailand.

It was indicated that Formula E chief executive officer James Dodd had sought an appointment with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to discuss the event and its potential benefits.

According to the report, Formula E had extended an invitation for Kuala Lumpur to become the annual host city for its final race until 2030, although the government has yet to respond to the offer.

The local partner of Formula E, Sports Tech Holding, then confirmed that it had reached out to the Prime Minister’s Office and is awaiting a response. — March 18, 2024
