Aiman Rosli leaves peloton in his wake for stunning Stage 2 win at Tour of Thailand

Mohamad Izzat Hilmi Abdul Halil finishes 10 seconds behind Terengganu Cycling rider

4:52 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Terengganu Cycling Team’s Muhammad Nur Aiman Rosli executed perfect tactics to dominate Stage 2 of the Tour of Thailand road cycling race today.

Today’s route, which started and ended in Sukhothai, covered a distance of 202.3km.

With 30km left, Aiman increased his pace and was riding solo until the finish line.

The five-time individual time trial national champion had the peloton trailing in his wake as other riders struggled to match Aiman’s pace.

The Johor-born rider crossed the finish line all by his lonesome with a time of 4hr 39min 17sec, 10 seconds ahead of Malaysia Pro Cycling’s Mohamad Izzat Hilmi Abdul Halil in second.

This is Izzat’s second podium finish after his third-place effort in Stage 1 yesterday.

German Lucas Carstensen from Roojai Insurance completed the podium.

“The route was 202-km long and the weather today was really hot, it was 30°C and above,” said Aiman after the stage.

“I have raced at the Tour of Thailand four times and I know the weather is like this, so I train in the heat of Malaysia and it benefited me here today.

“I broke away by myself with 50km left in the race and for the last 20km, I conserved some energy for the final sprint to the line.

“I want to thank my team and my teammates for their trust in me. I just want to do my best in the last four stages of the tour,” said the 25-year-old.

Aiman was also named the Most Combative Rider for his stunning ride.

Izzat took possession of the purple jersey for the Best Asean Rider classification. – April 2, 2024
