BAM introduces performance-based bonus system for state associations

This to incentivise development of young talent, says badminton body chief

KUALA LUMPUR – The Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) has taken a proactive step to further encourage the growth of young players in the country by agreeing to increase grants to state associations. 

This decision was among the key matters addressed and decided upon in the BAM council meeting held at Akademi Badminton Malaysia, Bukit Kiara today.

BAM president Tan Sri Mohamad Norza Zakaria explained that the initiative aimed not only to boost the number of young players in the country but also to provide fair rewards to state associations that worked hard to nurture young talents.

Previously, grant allocations for state associations under BAM’s jurisdiction ranged from RM300,000 to RM450,000. 

With the introduction of this new initiative, it is anticipated that this amount will increase.

“We understand that some states are investing more money and effort into developing young players, compared to other states.

“The state development committee and secretary-general will now review this activity-based grant.

“For example, if a state association previously received a grant of RM300,000, that amount will remain untouched, but there will be an increase based on performance and activity-based criteria.

“For instance, if we organise the National Junior Circuit, and players from a particular state win more medals, then that state will be given additional grants accordingly,” said Norza. – April 6, 2024
