Eain Yow claims maiden PSA World Tour title at German Open

With momentum from beating the first seed on Saturday, national player triumphed after an intense bout with Swiss rival

9:00 AM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – National squash player, Ng Eain Yow, brought glory to Malaysia by clinching the German Open title after defeating Switzerland’s Dimitri Steinman, earlier this morning.

Ranked 22nd in the world, Eain Yow stormed onto the court brimming with determination after stunning first seed Joel Makin from Wales in the semifinals on Saturday.

Displaying a masterclass performance in the final, the Kuala Lumpur born Eain Yow outshone Dimitri with unparalleled skill and agility, leaving his opponent struggling to match his every move.

After a gruelling 66-minute battle, Eain Yow sealed the championship with a hard-fought 12-10, 11-8, 10-12, 11-6 victory, marking his 137th career triumph and securing his maiden PSA World Tour title.

“It was a big relief to get through today, I think I played amazing all week so I was happy to pull through it.

“The final’s always different. There’s always some added pressure, there were different people messaging all day about my win yesterday, so for me I knew today was going to be tough, especially against Dimitri.

“He was just firing it in from everywhere and he wasn’t missing much, so I had to dig deep – keep running, keep getting all the balls back and sticking to my game plan and I think I did that.

“Just happy to get the title this week,” said Eain Yow.

This triumph adds another glorious chapter to Malaysian squash, following closely on the heels of compatriot S. Sivasangari’s historic victory in the London Squash Classic Championship last week, where she toppled the world number two, Hania El Hammamy, in the final. – April 8, 2024
