KUALA LUMPUR – Goh Sze Fei and Nur Izzuddin Rumsani clinched a stunning victory over their compatriots and former world champions, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, in the men’s doubles semi-finals at the Badminton Asia Championships.

Their straight-sets 21-14, 21-18 triumph secured them a coveted spot in the final.

The win is their second against reigning Olympic bronze-medallists Aaron-Wooi Yik, out of seven encounters this year.

They lost to their teammates at the Malaysia Open in January and All England in March.

Ranked 19th in the world, the duo will now face the winner of the match between Chinese Taipei pair Lee Jhe-Huei and Yang Po-Hsuan and China’s Liang Weikeng and Wang Chang in tomorrow’s title showdown.

Sze Fei-Izzuddin have been on an impressive streak at the championships, previously defeating reigning Olympic champions Lee Yang and Wang Chi-lin of Chinese Taipei in yesterday’s quarter-finals. – April 13, 2024
