Sze Fei feeling positive after runners-up finish at BAC

Calling their achievements a ‘stepping stone’ to greater success, shuttler thanks fans for their continued support

KUALA LUMPUR – National men’s doubles player Goh Sze Fei is focusing on the positives following his and partner Nur Izzuddin Rumsani’s second-place finish at the Badminton Asia Championship (BAC) today.

In his social media post, Sze Fei said that while it is natural to feel a tinge of disappointment after a defeat, he is proud of their achievement.

“This tournament has been a challenging yet rewarding experience, pushing us to give our absolute best on the court. Each match has taught us valuable lessons and has fueled our determination to keep striving for excellence.

“This achievement may not be the ultimate goal we set out for, but it’s a testament to our hard work, resilience, and unwavering dedication.

“I’m immensely grateful for the support from our fans, coaches, and everyone who has stood by us throughout this journey.

“This is just a stepping stone in our quest for greatness, and we’ll come back stronger and more determined than ever,” the 26-year-old said in his Instagram post.

Sze Fei and Izzuddin had a giant-killing run at the BAC, disposing of reigning world champions Kang Min-hyuk-Seo Seung-jae of South Korea in the first round.

Their second-round opponent He Jiting-Ren Xiangyu retired after losing the first set.

In the quarter-final, they battled past defending Olympic champions Lee Yang-Wang Chi-lin from Chinese Taipei in three sets.

They then broke a five-match losing streak to 2022 world champions Aaron Chia-Soh Wooi Yik in the semifinals.

However, Sze Fei and Izzuddin succumbed to a 17-21, 21-15, 10-21 defeat to world number three duo Liang Wei Keng-Wang Chang of China in the final. – April 14, 2024
