Wendy springs into retirement after 20 years as national diver

Three-time Olympian packs up her goggles after two eventful decades while thanking those who supported her along the way

KUALA LUMPUR – After 20 years of service, national diver Wendy Ng Yan Yee has stepped away from the diving board for good. 

The three-time Olympian announced her retirement in an Instagram post on her official account today. 

Wendy, a seven-time SEA Games gold medalist, thanked the National Sports Council (NSC), National Sports Institute (NSI), Malaysia Aquatics, teammates, coaches, sponsors and fans as their support and faith propelled her to unimaginable heights. 

“With a grateful and thankful heart, I bid farewell to the pool that’s been my sanctuary and stage for countless unforgettable moments.  

“From Olympic triumphs to cherishing each victory, was fueled by dedication and unwavering support. 

“Dear Mama and Papa, your sacrifices were my strength. As I embark on this new journey, I carry memories of past triumphs and hopes for a new venture.  

“This retirement marks the beginning of a new chapter. Thank you all for being part of this extraordinary journey.  

“Here’s to new a beginning guided by courage and fueled with passion,” the 31-year-old wrote in the caption of her post. 

Wendy specialised in the 3m synchronised and individual springboard event.  

She made her Olympic debut at the 2012 London Olympics and competed at Rio 2016 and Tokyo 2020. However, she did not manage to win an Olympic medal for the country. 

Her partner in the synchro, Nur Dhabitah Sabri, paid tribute to Wendy in an Instagram Story post.
