MACC reports no irregularities in probe into FAM’s RM25 mil national training centre

Anti-graft body recorded 14 witness statements, inspected 10 premises related to the project

2:38 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has not found any elements of corruption so far in investigations into the Football Association of Malaysia’s (FAM) plans to build a National Training Centre (NTC) worth RM25 million.

A MACC source said the anti-graft body has recorded 14 witness statements and inspected 10 premises related to the project.

“So far, no irregularities or elements of corruption have been found during investigations,” the source said.

Preliminary investigations have also shown that the NTC, which is to be constructed in Putrajaya, is being funded by international footballing body FIFA.

“Seven contractors were called to participate in the project tender. Of this, three were shortlisted based on their capabilities and proposals which met FIFA’s requirements.

“The three companies were (then) presented to FIFA at a meeting on April 8 which decided on one company to implement the project.

“The project status shows that FAM is currently preparing the contract agreement, based on FIFA’s company selection.”

The source added that investigations are almost complete and will be submitted to the MACC’s legal and prosecution division for review.

MACC’s deputy chief commissioner Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya confirmed the matter when contacted. – April 29, 2024
