Malaysia Open champion Anders Antonsen back training at ABM

Danish shuttler in Kuala Lumpur preparing for next week’s Thailand Open

6:12 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Reigning Malaysia Open champion Anders Antonsen is back at his favourite training ground – Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) in Bukit Kiara.

The Dane posted a video on his YouTube account titled “Morning practice at BAM” showing himself practising with coach Joachim Persson on the courts at ABM.

“The time is 9.30am, and we are done with the session of the day. As you can see, I’m here at the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM).

“Once again, I’ve been so lucky to practise with the Malaysian team. So yeah, the conditions are good, I like the floor, but the arena is a bit drifty. Obviously, it is warm and humid so you’ll go through a lot of clothes.

“I always bring extra socks, headbands and change racquets all the time… but it is early, way earlier than I’m used to practising,” said the world number four in his video.

He added that he arrived for practice at 7.30am, but there were already players from BAM on the court who started around 6.30am.

He arrived in Kuala Lumpur from Chengdu on Sunday after Denmark’s quarter-final exit from the Thomas Cup.

The 27-year-old is here for a few days preparing for next week’s Thailand Open.

This is not the first time the Aarhus-born shuttler has based himself at ABM before tournaments.

In November, he spent a few weeks at ABM preparing for the World Tour Finals in Hangzhou, China in December.

He was looking for a warmer climate to train in as he was escaping the cold Danish winter. – May 7, 2024
