Club CEO expresses concern over incident, urging swift police action

KUALA LUMPUR – Johor Darul Ta’zim FC (JDT) has intensified security measures for its players as a precautionary response to the recent attack on midfielder Safiq Rahim.

It was reported that Safiq’s car’s rear windscreen was smashed by unknown assailants in Johor Bharu.

JDT chief executive officer Alistair Edwards, in a post on X, said the players have been advised to be cautious of their surroundings and posts on social media at all times.

“Johor Darul Ta’zim FC is concerned about the incident involving Safiq Rahim, whose car was attacked near the JDT Training Centre.

“We urge the Royal Malaysian Police to investigate the matter urgently,” he added.

The incident, along with the recent attacks on Akhyar Rashid and Faisal Halim, have no place in football, Edwards added.

Safiq had shared the incident on his Instagram page yesterday, along with a copy of the police report he filed after the incident.

It is understood that while on Sri Gelam Road heading towards Pantai Lido, Safiq, driving a Honda City, was approached by a motorcycle with two men.

Previously, Faisal Halim, a former player for Selangor FC, was the victim of an acid attack, while Akhyar Rashid, a player for Terengganu FC, was robbed outside his home in Kuala Terengganu. – May 8, 2024
