NFDP appoints Oscar Francisco Gonzalez as technical director

Australian national will also take on same role in Mokhtar Dahari Football Academy

KUALA LUMPUR – The National Football Development Programme (NFDP) steering committee has appointed Oscar Francisco Gonzalez as the technical director, said the National Sports Council in a statement today. 

The Australian will also fill the technical director role for the Mokhtar Dahari Football Academy.  

The decision to appoint him was made in a committee meeting chaired by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh effective April 21. 

“The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) put forward Gonzalez’s name after interviewing four candidates which were short-listed by the governing body on December 13, 2023. 

“FAM president Datuk Hamidin Mohd Amin led the interview panel which also included deputy president Datuk S. Sivasundaram, secretary general Datuk Noor Azman Abdul Rahman, technical director Scott O’Donnell and resource unit head Zukhailah Marzuki,” the statement read. 

Gonzalez holds a professional coaching diploma from the Asian Football Confederation and has 20 years of experience in handling elite youth football development programmes in New South Wales. 

He has also worked at a few clubs like Nantong Zhiyun FC di China, Football New South Wales, Westfield Sports dan A-League Central Coast Mariners di Australia. 

Previously Gonzalez held the post of head of coaches education at the Football Association of Australia. – May 10, 2024
