Zii Jia storms into Thai Open final

World number 10 defeats Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen in thrilling match to secure spot in the tournament final

9:56 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – World number 10, Lee Zii Jia, stormed into the final of the Thailand Open after defeating Chinese Taipei’s Chou Tien Chen at the Nimibutr Stadium in Bangkok today.

It took Zii Jia one hour to beat Tien Chen 18-21, 21-12, 21-13.

Zii Jia, who won the Thailand Open in 2022, had a shaky start to this year’s edition as he was stretched before beating China’s Lei Lan Xi 21-17, 23-21 in the first round.

The former All England champion then defeated South Korea’s Jeon Hyeok Jin 22-20, 21-7 to make it to the quarter-finals, where he faced China’s Lu Guangzu.

Zii Jia defeated the Chinese player 21-13, 16-21, 21-18.

Zii Jia will take on Angus Ng Ka Long in the final tomorrow. – May 18, 2024
