KUALA LUMPUR – Myanmar pulled off an upset over SEA Games gold medalist Indonesia in the group match of the doubles premier event at the Sepak Takraw World Cup at the Titiwangsa Stadium today.

Boosted by boisterous support from the crowd, Myanmar’s duo, Min Oo Zin and Wunna Zaw Shein, took the first set rather comfortably with a score of 15-9.

Indonesia’s Muhammad Hardiansyah Muliang and Rusdi, who defeated Malaysia to win the doubles gold at last year’s SEA Games in Cambodia, showed their mettle by fighting back in the second to win a tight set of 17-16.

In the decisive third set, Myanmar substituted Shein for Paing Oo Yan, and the move paid dividends as they sealed the match with a score of 15-12.

Reflecting on the match, Hardiansyah acknowledged Myanmar’s advantage as they had played against the Philippines yesterday.

“Their preparation is better as they have had plenty of time to adapt to the conditions.

“Today is our first time on court and we didn’t even get to test the court beforehand. I believe we will be better in our next match.

“Their serving was very impressive and accurate, they managed to catch us off guard multiple times,” said Hardiansyah.
