KUALA LUMPUR – National bowler Sin Li Jane made history by becoming the first Malaysian to win the US Women’s Open at Royal Pin Woodland, Indianapolis, yesterday.

The 32-year-old delivered a stellar performance to claim the title, defeating Latvian Diana Zavjalova 226-214 in the stepladder final, reported Bernama.

Li Jane’s victory makes her the second Asian to win the tournament, following Japan’s Shinobu Saitoh in 1982.

Introduced in 1949, the US Women’s Open had previously seen the best Malaysian performance by Datuk Shalin Zulkifli, who finished third in 2008.

As the champion, Li Jane took home a cash prize of US$60,000 (RM282,900), along with the green championship jacket and trophy. The runner-up received US$30,000. – June 19, 2024
