KUALA LUMPUR – The Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (ASTAF) has offered the hosting rights to the Sepaktakraw Association of Malaysia (PSM) for its inaugural 2025 Sepaktakraw Asia Cup Championship.

ASTAF president Datuk Abdul Halim Kader announced today that the ASTAF executive committee made a unanimous decision during their recent meeting in Bangkok to appoint Malaysia as the host.

Halim expressed hope that the sports governing body, led by Datuk Mohd Sumali Reduan and the PSM Supreme Council, will carefully consider the offer.

He cited 10 strong and practical reasons for choosing Malaysia, notably the country’s successful hosting of the International Sepaktakraw Federation’s (ISTAF) Sepaktakraw World Cup from May 16 to 26.

“More importantly, the support from (Youth and Sports Minister) Hannah Yeoh allowed PSM to achieve the goal of hosting the World Cup through a RM1 million sports sponsorship grant,” Halim said, reported Bernama.

“The inaugural Asia Cup 2025 is intended to serve as a testing ground for countries preparing for the 2025 Bangkok SEA Games.”

Halim, who also serves as the ISTAF secretary-general, mentioned that the format for team regu, regu, doubles, and quadran events will be proposed to the SEA Games Federation in Bangkok. – June 19, 2024
