Fahmi urges for transparency and election amid KL City’s financial turmoil

Club’s longrunning difficulties highlighted by team captain’s unpaid salary for seven months

11:24 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – Kuala Lumpur City FC patron Fahmi Fadzil has urged the club’s management to come clean and called for an election, following the club’s ongoing financial debacle.

It was reported that KL City’s financial woes came to a boil after their skipper Paulo Josue alleged that he has not received his salary for seven months and is currently surviving on his savings.

According to transfermarkt.com, the 35-year-old Brazil-born attacking midfielder has a current market value of RM1.39 million and earns between RM105,000 and RM110,000 per month.

Fahmi, who is also the communications minister, said that he has been trying to help the club since coming on board as a patron in June last year, and conveyed his views to secretary-general Nokman Mustaffa, but the issues have yet to be resolved.

“The club management has to come clean. I’m not a part of the executive council, I’m just a patron and I’m only trying to help. But it’s difficult to do so as many of the basic issues are yet to be resolved.

“I have always been giving my views to the secretary-general and nothing has changed. I also wonder why they have yet to call for an election and what is causing the delay.

“I’m just an outsider, trying to help, and I sympathise with the players in the current situation. In fact, I have even met several of the players in the dressing room to help them at the very start, even when they were nearly banned from getting import players.

“The management should be fair and call for an election. I have not spoken to Josue directly, but I’m aware of his case, and I was told that his situation is peculiar compared to all the other players.

“We need to ask the management what is actually going on,” said Fahmi when met after distributing free helmets to 150 school students at SK Bangsar today.

For the record, Josue joined the City Boys in 2017 and has made 125 appearances, scoring 45 goals for the club.

KL City FC currently ranks fifth in the Super League with four points from three matches. – July 10, 2024
