Sports Ministry plans nationwide motocross boost, reveals Hannah

Minister aims to enhance Rakan Litar initiative with dedicated facilities across all states to encourage wider participation among youth

KUALA LUMPUR – The Youth and Sports Ministry is preparing a proposal paper for developing motocross facilities across the country to promote the Rakan Litar programme, the Dewan Rakyat was told today.

Minister Hannah Yeoh said Rakan Litar is one of the 10 lifestyles introduced as part of efforts to strengthen the revamped Rakan Muda initiative.

Hannah mentioned that once the proposal paper, prepared for all state executive councillors, is completed, the ministry will open bids for developing these facilities, similar to the process undertaken for upgrading football league fields in each state.

“The ministry has taken the initiative to explore how we can further develop motocross facilities like the one we have in Perlis.

“…I believe the number of youths involved in Rakan Litar will increase once each state has dedicated facilities.

“As for Rakan Litar involving car racing, it requires a very large plot of land and a very high cost, which is challenging for us.

“Therefore, we are focusing on motocross first,” she said when replying to a question from Zakri Hassan (Kangar-PN).

Hannah said Rakan Litar saw the involvement of only 3,581 youths last year, falling short of the target of 4,000.

She added that the lack of circuit facilities for Rakan Litar programmes might have contributed to the lower participation.

Among the popular Rakan Muda lifestyles are Rakan Aktif, followed by Rakan Demokrasi and Rakan Ekspresi, she said. – July 11, 2024
