Nur Aisyah’s historic Olympic debut ends early

She had made history as the first Malaysian female road cyclist to compete at the Olympics

9:16 AM MYT

PARIS – The debut of national women’s road cyclist Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir at the Paris Olympics ended in disappointment as she was among the 14 riders recorded as Did Not Finish (DNF), here today.

The 158-km race at Trocadero saw American cyclist Kristen Faulkner winning the gold medal with a time of 3 hours 59 minutes and 23 seconds, while Marianne Vos of the Netherlands (4:00.21) took silver and Lotte Kopecky of Belgium (4:00.21) the bronze.

Notably, Nur Aisyah made history as the first Malaysian female road cyclist to compete at the Olympics, having been awarded a slot in Paris by the Malaysian National Cycling Federation (MNCF).

During her preparations for the Games, she had been sent to Belgium to participate in nearly 20 competitions as warm-up events before being involved in an accident during a race in Belgium on June 16.

She sustained minor injuries to her shoulder and throat from the accident, and the replacement bike she was using at the time was damaged in several parts. – August 5, 2024
