KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s hopes for a medal in diving were dashed as Nur Dhabitah Sabri finished last in the women’s 3m springboard final at the Paris Olympics.

In the final held at the Olympic Aquatic Centre in Saint-Denis, the 25-year-old diver got off to a strong start, scoring 63.00 points with her first dive.

After finishing the first round in third place, she maintained her momentum with a solid second dive, earning 60.00 points and keeping herself in the race for a top-three finish.

However, her hopes for a podium spot were shattered when a minor mistake on her third dive resulted in a low score of 37.50 points, dropping Nur Dhabitah to 11th place.

The Hangzhou Asian Games silver medallist attempted to improve her position with her fourth dive, but it proved futile as she scored just 28.50 points, relegating her to the bottom of the standings among the 12 competitors.

Nur Dhabitah delivered her best dive in the fifth and final round, earning 55.80 points, but it was too late to make a significant difference.

In the end, she had to settle for last place with a total score of 244.80 points.

The gold medal was claimed by China’s world champion Chen Yiwen, who amassed 376.00 points.

Australia’s Maddison Keeney secured the silver with 343.10 points, while the bronze went to China’s Chang Yani, who scored 318.75 points.

This performance was a far cry from Nur Dhabitah’s impressive showing at Tokyo 2020, where she finished fourth with a total score of 326.15 points. – August 9, 2024
