KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Football League (MFL) today announced the appointment of former La Liga Delegate in Malaysia, Giorgio Pompili Rossi, as the new chief executive officer (CEO) of MFL.

Rossi replaces Datuk Stuart Ramalingam, whose contract with the Malaysian league’s governing body (M-League) ended on August 31.

The decision was made through the agreement of the MFL board of directors during a meeting yesterday, marking Rossi as the first foreigner to be appointed as CEO of MFL.

MFL president Datuk Ab Ghani Hassan explained that the decision to appoint Rossi was based on his extensive experience in the football industry since 2013.

“We at MFL welcome Pompili Rossi and have confidence in his abilities and expertise to perform his role as the new CEO here. He will commence his duties once the visa process is completed.

“Pompili Rossi’s expertise in Malaysian football and the region will be invaluable for managing MFL’s operations, especially in competition and commercial areas,” said Ab Ghani in a statement.

Rossi began with a Serie A commercial agency, worked with Valencia CF, and joined La Liga in 2017.

He was a La Liga delegate in Malaysia from 2017 to 2021, promoting the Spanish league and its clubs.

He later expanded his role to Thailand, Laos, Cambodia and Myanmar before becoming MFL CEO.

Ab Ghani also praised Stuart for his three years of service as MFL secretary-general, highlighting his commitment to restructuring M-League, implementing the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) system and boosting M-League’s commercial value. — September 5, 2024
