KUALA LUMPUR — The Akademi Badminton Malaysia (ABM) is expected to undergo a coaching reshuffle soon, according to ABM coaching director, Rexy Mainaky.

He revealed that the governing body’s top management will meet on September 24 to discuss the matter in detail.

“So far, the discussion to add or reshuffle coaches is scheduled for September 24 and will only involve the relevant departments. Some names have already been mentioned, but this will be finalised during the meeting,” Rexy told reporters today at ABM.

In May, the Badminton Association of Malaysia (BAM) advertised for a new men’s singles coach for the national senior squad, signalling the possibility of changes within the coaching structure.

Rexy also highlighted that the meeting will address the need to reduce the number of players in both the national senior and junior squads, which he believes are currently larger than necessary.

“There are currently 70 junior players and more than 50 senior players. We’ll be discussing with the coaches to determine the ideal number for each sector,” he added. — September 10, 2024
