KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has called on the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) to create a detailed planning strategy and a Performance Indicator Index aimed at improving the performance of the Harimau Malaya squad.
The directive came alongside the government’s pledge of RM15 million to support the national football team, including the under-23 squad, noted the Youth and Sports Ministry in a statement today.
“During a meeting with FAM leadership today, Datuk Seri Anwar highlighted that the allocation will be closely monitored by both the Finance Ministry and the Youth and Sports Ministry to ensure transparency and accountability.
“In addition to the funding, the Youth and Sports Ministry will collaborate with the Asian Football Confederation to evaluate the effectiveness of the National Football Development Programme, which is overseen by the National Sports Council.
“The review aims to identify areas for improvement within the programme,” the statement read.
Anwar reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the national sports ecosystem, assuring that the financial boost to Harimau Malaya will not come at the expense of funding for other sports in Malaysia. – September 19, 2024
