FAM to reevaluate F:30 blueprint, prioritising youth development for long-term success

Programme aims to place Harimau Malaya among Asia’s top five teams within three years

12:37 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) acknowledges the need to reassess its F:30 programme to improve the governing body’s directives for the coming years.

Launched in 2018, the F:30 programme focuses on developing the game, strengthening the organisation, and expanding FAM as a brand.

Currently in its second phase (2023-2026), it aims to position Harimau Malaya among the top five teams in Asia within three years.

Speaking to Scoop, FAM deputy president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi said further efforts are needed to elevate youth development through the ongoing programme.

Yusoff, who is seeking a second term at FAM, expressed confidence that the current administration, led by Tan Sri Hamidin Mohd Amin, would secure another term.

“We, in the leadership team, still believe there is much to improve, especially with our F:30 programme. So far, the programme has been successful, but there are some areas we have yet to fully address, such as improving youth development.

“The pandemic was a showstopper, but we are now on the right track with several initiatives in the pipeline.

“However, more needs to be done in the coming years before we reach our 100th anniversary. Youth development is a long-term goal, and we need to produce top talents that will help us regularly qualify for the Asian Cup and, hopefully, one day for the World Cup.

“We have been doing our part since taking office in 2018, and our affiliates can see and judge for themselves what we have achieved for the betterment of our national team,” Yusoff said when contacted.

Malaysia made history by qualifying for the AFC Asian Cup in Qatar this year, on merit, for the first time in 42 years.
