KUALA LUMPUR — In the hunt for the elusive first Olympic gold medal, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today announced a total allocation of RM230 million under Budget 2025 for sports development.

The allocation will strengthen the existing National Podium Programme, the Road to Gold (RTG) top-up initiative, as well as para-athlete development.

Separately, the increased allocation from the RM172 million announced last year will go towards maintaining and upgrading existing sports infrastructure in the country ahead of the 2027 SEA Games, and athletes’ preparation for the 2025 Tokyo Deaflympics.

Included in the budget announcement is RM15 million for the national football squad, RM20 million for e-sports development, as well as RM1 million for the development of cricket. — October 18, 2024
