Team Malaysia makes history with MLBB triumph at IESF World Esports Championship

National squad secures first-ever title with 2-0 victory over the Philippines, earning US$70,000 in Riyadh showdown

KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia’s Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) team made history by defeating the Philippines 2-0 in the Grand Final of the IESF World Esports Championship 2024 in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, today.  

The team featured Selangor Red Giants players Muhd Qayyum Ariffin Mohd Suhairi (Yums), Muhd Haqqullah Ahmad Shahrul Zaman (Sekys), Haziq Danish Mohd Rizwan (Stormie), and Ilman Zareef Zulkifli (Gojes), alongside JP Niners’ Gold Laner, Ealtond Rayner (Lolealz).

Malaysia started strong, claiming the first match with 17 ‘kills’ to 14 in a 22-minute showdown.

Despite a brief stumble in the second match, the team rallied to secure victory with nine ‘kills’ to four, clinching the nation’s first-ever championship title in the tournament.

With the historic win, Team Malaysia took home US$70,000 (RM313,180) in prize money. — November 16, 2024
