Malayan Tigress set to roar at Bukit Jalil stadium

The team will also have access to train on the stadium’s pitch

8:22 PM MYT

KUALA LUMPUR – The national women’s football team is set to fire up the Bukit Jalil National Stadium, as the venue will now serve as the official home ground for the Malayan Tigress.

Previously, Bukit Jalil was only the home ground for the men’s team.

This will be the first time the Malayan Tigress will play their home matches at Bukit Jalil.
Under the management of head coach Soleen Al-Zoubi, the team will also have access to train on the stadium’s pitch.

At the same time, the final round of the 2024 National Women’s League will be held at the stadium on December 21.

“The ministry is committed to ensuring a level playing field for the women’s team by giving them equal access to the national stadium. This includes providing the team the opportunity to train on the field like the men’s national team.

“The Women’s National League will take place at the national stadium every year starting from 2024.
“The women’s national team will also train at the stadium when matches are taking place at Bukit Jalil, just like the men’s national team,” said Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh in a statement today.

Hannah also explained that this move is aimed at elevating the status of women’s football in Malaysia and narrowing the significant gap between the men’s and women’s teams.

“The equal opportunity move is intended to raise the spirit of the women’s national squad.
“The ministry will also focus its efforts on continuing to reduce the gaps between the men’s and women’s teams. Kita Semua Team MAS!” she added.

The Malayan Tigress squad is currently preparing for the upcoming AFF Women’s Cup, which will take place in Vientiane, Laos, starting from November 23.

So far, the team, under Soleen’s guidance, has shown impressive performances in their last three friendly matches, securing a 1-0 victory over Saudi Arabia after drawing 0-0, and most recently, defeating Laos 3-1 last month. – November 19, 2024
