KUALA LUMPUR — Japanese coach Katsuhito Kinoshi has been named the new head coach of Selangor FC, filling the position left vacant after Nidzam Jamil’s unexpected resignation last month.

In a statement issued late last night, Selangor FC described Kinoshi as an experienced coach with extensive knowledge of the game and strong leadership skills.

“Kinoshi’s expertise in team building, strategy, and youth development will be invaluable as we strive for success. His coaching experience, including working with several prominent coaches, will provide the team with the direction and identity needed to excel,” the statement read.

Expressing his enthusiasm, the 60-year-old Tokyo-born coach said joining Selangor FC was an honour and that he looked forward to working with the team’s talented players.

“Together, we aim to build a team that is not only tactically strong but also driven by passion and determination to succeed,” Kinoshi said.

Kinoshi’s coaching journey includes collaborations with renowned football figures such as Dragan Stojkovic, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, and Akira Nishino.

Notably, his partnership with Stojkovic, the current Serbian national team coach, contributed to Serbia’s qualification for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

Selangor FC currently sits second in the 2024/2025 Super League standings with 29 points, 11 points behind leaders Johor Darul Ta’zim (JDT), who have 40 points. The team remains active in the Malaysia Cup campaign.

In the ongoing AFC Champions League 2 (ACL2) season, Selangor is on track to qualify for the knockout stage, sitting second in Group H, two points behind group leaders Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of South Korea. — November 24, 2024
