Megat to defend PCM presidency

KUALA LUMPUR – Paralympic Council of Malaysia (PCM) president Datuk Seri Megat D. Shahriman Zaharudin has confirmed his intention to defend his position at the council’s Annual General Meeting (AGM), scheduled for December 14.  

Megat, who is also the Para Swimming Association of Malaysia president, said that his decision stems from the need to complete several key initiatives for PCM and the development of para sports in the country.  

“One of my responsibilities is to ensure two important collaboration agreements with two companies for funding that will undoubtedly help PCM continue its grassroots and high-performance programmes, as well as non-podium initiatives are finalised.  

“Collaboration with entities or companies is crucial because it is the president’s duty to secure funds independently to cover the expenses of PCM’s programmes and management,” he told a press conference here today.  

Besides Megat, former National Sports Council (NSC) Director-General Datuk Ahmad Shapawi Ismail has also announced his candidacy for the top PCM post.  

When asked about Ahmad Shapawi’s candidacy, Megat expressed his hope that the affiliates would choose the best candidate to lead PCM for the next four years.  

It is understood that PCM will release the official list of eligible candidates for the AGM tomorrow. – December 12, 2024
