KUALA LUMPUR — The Asian Sepaktakraw Federation (Astaf) has confirmed that the team regu, regu, quadrant, hoop, and chinlone (linking) events will be part of the 33rd SEA Games in Thailand, scheduled to take place from December 9 to 20 next year.

Astaf president Datuk Abdul Halim Kader announced that these events were approved during the SEA Games Federation Council Meeting on October 25.

“We extend our heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the leadership of Thailand’s National Olympic Committee (NOC), led by its president, General Prawit Wongsuwan.

“We also commend the excellent preparations by the Thailand SEA Games Federation Council and the SEA Games Federation Office, under its CEO Chaiyapak Siriwat,” he said in a statement today.

Abdul Halim explained that the competitions are divided into four categories:

– Group A (open category): men’s and women’s team regu events.

– Group B: countries can choose two out of three events—regu, quadrant, and hoop—for both men and women.

– Group C (open category): mixed quadrant event.

– Group D (open category): chinlone (linking) events for men and women.

According to the statement, participating nations may send up to 21 men and/or 21 women players for sepak takraw and between six to eight men and/or women players for chinlone.

Each country is also required to nominate two referees approved by Astaf to accompany their delegation. — December 21, 2024
