OCM targets new Olympic House in Bkt Jalil ahead of 2027 SEA Games

The Olympic Council of Malaysia plans to relocate from Wisma OCM to a new five-acre headquarters in Bukit Jalil, aiming for completion before hosting the SEA Games in 2027

KUALA LUMPUR — The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) aims to move into its new headquarters, Olympic House Malaysia, in Bukit Jalil before Malaysia hosts the SEA Games in 2027.

OCM secretary-general Datuk Mohd Nazifuddin Najib acknowledged the challenges of relocating from Wisma OCM on Jalan Hang Jebat to the new site but remains optimistic about the plan.  

“The land lease matter has been discussed, and we will swap the Wisma OCM land with Malaysian Resources Corporation Berhad (MRCB). 

“We are awaiting Cabinet approval to lease the five-acre plot adjacent to the National Hockey Stadium from the Malaysian Stadium Corporation. 

“Once approved and paid for, we can hand over the land to MRCB for development,” he said after launching the Malaysia Kidslympic 2024 at Stadium Merdeka today.

OCM plans to use two acres of land for the office building, while the remaining area will be allocated for parking, gardens, and training spaces. 

The cost of the relocation process will also be assessed.

Wisma OCM, established in 1991, occupies a 1.8-acre plot in central Kuala Lumpur near landmarks such as Stadium Merdeka, Stadium Negara, and Merdeka 118, the world’s second-tallest skyscraper. 

Its lease remains valid until 2077.

The decision to relocate to Bukit Jalil stems from the concentration of sports facilities in the area and traffic congestion issues around Wisma OCM in central Kuala Lumpur.

Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced on December 11 that the construction of the new building had been agreed upon by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh on behalf of the government. — December 28, 2024
