KBS to announce new NSI chief soon, 19 candidates to be interviewed

Youth and Sports Ministry's secretary-general Dr. K. Nagulendran will conduct the interviews for the candidates

10:03 PM MYT

SHAH ALAM – A total of 19 candidates will be interviewed for the role of Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the National Sports Institute (NSI).

This was confirmed by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh when she was met after officiating the Chery cars presentation ceremony with national para-athletes in Shah Alam today.

Hannah said that the Youth and Sports Ministry’s secretary-general, Dr. K. Nagulendran will conduct the interviews, and a decision is expected to be made soon.

“This (change of CEO) is a normal process in the Public Service Department (JPA), where there is a rotation after a certain period. We have advertised the position and received many applications (19) from both government employees and those from outside.

“Dr. K. Nagulendran will conduct the interviews and follow the required process. We have also held a town hall session with the top management of NSI to gather their views.

“What is important is continuity, so that operations and services for athletes are not disrupted. We want to ensure that this transition process goes smoothly,” Hannah said in a press conference today.

NSI plays a crucial role in supporting national athletes in terms of sports medicine, treatment, and sports science services. Numerous top athletes, including the likes of Datuk Lee Chong Wei, Datuk Nicol David, and Azizulhasni Awang, have benefited from NSI’s expertise over the past two decades.

The current NSI CEO, Ahmad Faedzal Md Ramli, is set to conclude his tenure on February 24. – January 21,2025
