Stadium Corp eyes commercial growth as new leadership sets fresh direction

Deputy chairman Windsor John says governance, technology, and public accessibility will be key to boosting revenue and upgrading facilities ahead of the 2027 SEA Games

KUALA LUMPUR – Stadium Corporation Malaysia (PSM), under its recently appointed board members, is focused on achieving its targets over the next few years to make its facilities more commercially viable.

The governing body’s commercial revenue target aligns with a fresh direction set by PSM chairman Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz. She has tasked her board members with turning this vision into reality through good governance and by improving public access to existing facilities.

Speaking to Scoop, PSM deputy chairman Datuk Seri Windsor John, who also serves as secretary-general of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC), said the board is currently preparing paperwork to upgrade PSM’s facilities ahead of the 2027 SEA Games.

“The SEA Games will take place in two years, and we are currently working on the paperwork to identify the areas that need upgrading in our existing facilities.

“Our primary focus at PSM is proper governance. This means putting all necessary structures in place and appointing the right people to manage them, with clear rules, regulations, and SOPs to ensure everything is done efficiently.

“In this digital age, we also want to embrace technology and integrate it into our management. Beyond that, we are committed to making our facilities more commercially viable and generating higher revenue within the next two years.

“We also want to ensure that our facilities are accessible to the general public. We will provide more updates in the next few weeks once our board meeting is concluded,” Windsor said when contacted.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh announced yesterday that Anita Azrina, a former senior general manager of strategic communications at Petronas Group, will serve a three-year term from 2025 to 2027.

This confirms Scoop’s report on March 8, which speculated Anita Azrina as the frontrunner for the chairman role.

On Monday, Datuk Hans Isaac announced via Instagram that he had ended his tenure as PSM chairman after two years in the role.

Under his leadership, PSM’s revenue grew to RM10.64 million in 2024, with the Bukit Jalil National Stadium generating RM1.8 million from non-sporting events such as concerts. — March 21, 2025
