KUALA LUMPUR – The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) is seeking a chief executive officer to lead the organising committee for the 34th SEA Games and the 15th Asean Para Games, set to take place in Malaysia in 2027.
Minister Hannah Yeoh said discussions would be held with the Public Service Department (JPA) after Hari Raya Aidilfitri to select the individual who will take on the role. The CEO will then be responsible for appointing other committee members for the biennial Games.
“We don’t have much time before hosting the Games, so whoever takes on the role will need to hit the ground running,” she told reporters at the launch of Taska Team MAS at the National Sports Institute (NSI) in Bukit Jalil today.
The government yesterday approved the establishment of the organising committee for both the SEA Games and the Asean Para Games.
Malaysia last hosted the SEA Games in 2017, where the national contingent emerged as overall champions with a medal haul of 145 gold, 92 silver and 86 bronze medals. The country has previously hosted the Games in 1965, 1971, 1977, 1989, 2001 and 2017.
The 33rd edition of the SEA Games will be held in December in Thailand, with events taking place across Bangkok, Chonburi and Songkhla.

Earlier, Hannah officiated the launch of Taska Team MAS, a childcare centre aimed at supporting athletes, coaches and sports agency staff at KL Sports City.
She emphasised that the initiative reflects the ministry’s commitment to helping sports professionals balance their careers and family responsibilities.
“This childcare centre will operate from 7 am to 7 pm. Why 7 am? Because many of our athletes train early in the morning, and most other childcare centres don’t open that early,” she said. — March 27, 2025
