KUALA LUMPUR — A total of 54 programmes totalling RM1,649,195 have been approved this year under the National Sports Trust Fund (KWASN), said Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.
Hannah emphasised that the approvals reflect the ministry’s commitment to nurturing national sporting talent.
In a Facebook post today, she also announced that from 2024 onwards, KWASN grants will no longer be limited to national sports associations, but will also be available to individual athletes and teams.
She described this as a significant step towards ensuring that no one is left behind, regardless of whether they are affiliated with a formal sports body or are competing independently.
KWASN is a grant initiative designed to support national sports bodies and independent athletes in organising programmes or participating in sports events at both national and international levels.
“It is also designed to help athletes participate in international competitions to improve their rankings.
“My message to everyone is: do not hesitate to apply to KWASN if you meet the stated criteria. Victory begins with a brave first step. Let us build a successful sporting nation with every talent that deserves an opportunity,” she said.
