KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Cub Prix Championship (MCPC) is set for a major boost this year with the addition of the RM20 million LYL International Karting Circuit, newly constructed by LYL Group at Sg Long Hill, Selangor.

Located a 40-minute drive from Kuala Lumpur, the circuit spans 1.5km and includes 15 exciting corners, featuring four chicanes and six high-speed straights, along with an uphill section. It is recognised as the longest karting circuit in Asia and is also suitable for motorcycle racing.

Speaking at the press conference today, Ron Hogg, the promotions director of Safe Aim Mutual (SAM), said that the new circuit was created to enhance the image of motorcycle racing and encourage more young people to get involved by providing a permanent, professionally designed, and visually appealing venue.

In the past, the MCPC took place on various street circuits throughout the country before relocating to the Sepang International Circuit (SPC) in 2019.

Additionally, the MCPC revealed a partnership with the Social Security Organisation (Socso) aimed at promoting road safety awareness nationwide.

“We don’t have many racing circuits in our country, and we’re truly grateful to the LYL Group for exceeding their initial budget of RM10 million and completing this circuit with a final investment of RM20 million.

“This circuit will be a great addition to the automotive industry in the coming years, and we expect to see more championships taking place at this venue. For years, we have relied on street circuits to host our races, and LYL Group has come in at the right time, offering us a fantastic alternative.

“Moreover, we are aware that motorcycle sports are still not widely perceived as a safe activity by the public, and we aim to change the perception by organising top-quality championships to inspire youth participation,” said Ron at the launch of MCPC at LYL International Karting Circuit today.

At the same time, the organisers announced their intention to include night races in upcoming editions of the MCPC.

“We have plans to organise a night race at this circuit, but not now. Several aspects need to be looked at, especially regarding the technical preparations and spectator safety.

“It’s not just about the race itself – the surrounding atmosphere and facilities for the public must be considered. So, we are treating this year as a trial and evaluation phase.

“If all goes well, night racing could be introduced next season,” Ron added.

The 2025 season will consist of 10 rounds taking place at various venues, such as SPC, Tangkak Circuit, Terengganu Motor Circuit, and the new LYL International Karting Circuit. The season opener is set for April 19 to 20 at SPC, and Round 3 will be held at the LYL International Karting Circuit in mid-June. – April 10, 2025
