KUALA LUMPUR – Manchester United is heading back to Malaysia after 16 years—and they’re bringing their biggest stars with them.
Local fans will get the rare chance to see the likes of Bruno Fernandes, Casemiro, Alejandro Garnacho, Matthijs de Ligt, Amad Diallo, and Rasmus Højlund live in action when United takes on the ASEAN All-Stars in the Maybank Challenge Cup on May 28 at the Bukit Jalil National Stadium.
The English giants, who last played in Kuala Lumpur in 2009, are set to headline what’s being billed as one of the most anticipated football events in the region this decade.
Organised by ProEvents and sanctioned by the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) in collaboration with the Asean Football Federation (AFF), the match promises to unite fans across Southeast Asia in a spectacular evening of world-class football.
“Bringing Manchester United back to Malaysia after 16 years is an incredible milestone,” said Julian Kam, FIFA Match Agent and CEO of ProEvents.
“This match is a celebration of unity. It’s going to be an unmissable occasion for football lovers across the region.”
Tickets go on sale on April 15 via Ticket Empire, with prices ranging from RM50 to RM1,500. Maybank cardholders will enjoy early access through an exclusive pre-sale.

United will be playing against the ASEAN All-Stars—a team assembled from Southeast Asia’s finest players—ready to showcase their talent on a global stage and test themselves against football royalty.
“This is a scoop for Malaysia as the match is exclusive to our country,” said FAM president Datuk Mohd Joehari Mohd Ayub.
“Hosting a club of Manchester United’s stature highlights our growing football culture and passion.”
AFF president Major General Khiev Sameth called the match a “celebration of belief, hard work, and unity” and urged young players across the region to be inspired by the occasion.
The event also aligns with Malaysia’s 2025 ASEAN Chairmanship and is set to be a symbolic celebration of regional unity through sport, with fans expected from Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and beyond.
Kickoff is at 8.45pm on May 28. Tickets are available via www.myticketempire.com/manumy. Fans are urged to secure their seats early. – April 11, 2025
